If You Love Me....
For most of us it may be quite easy to say those three little words 'I love you' to the people who are nearest and dearest to us. They slip off the tongue quite easily and in our minds and emotions we believe that we truly love the person we have said it to. It is however, a known fact that just saying these words does not really prove that we love that person. We prove that we love that person in our actions rather than in our words (actions speak louder than words).
The Hebrew word for 'love' is 'ahav' and goes much deeper than a simple emotion or words. The word 'ahav' means 'to provide and protect what is given as a privileged gift.'
This means that we are to love not in an emotional sense but in our actions.
The natural response of the heart that feels loved is to demonstrate love in return by actions. The person that loves YaHuWaH, longs to show love in return and it becomes the most natural thing in the world to obey our Father.
In John 14 v 15 Yahushua says:
'If you love Me, you shall guard My Commands.'
He also goes on to say in verse 21:
'He who possesses My Commands and guards (does) them, it is he who loves Me. And He who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I shall love him and manifest Myself to Him.'
In John 15 v 9 Yahushua goes on to say:
'As the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you. Stay in My love.
If you guard (keep) My Commands, you shall stay in My love, even as I have guarded My Father's Commands and stay in His love.'
1 John 3 v 23 - 24 says this:
'And this is His Command, that we should believe in the Name of His Son Yahushua Messiah and love one another, as He gave us command. And the one guarding His Commands stays in Him, and He in Him.'
YaHuWaH shows us that He loves us through His provision and protection and His faithfulness to us. He sent the gift of His Son, so that anyone who believes in Him can be delivered and have life. The gift of salvation is not something that happens as soon as we say we believe, or say a prayer or put our hand up in a church service. Salvation / deliverance comes when we stand before our Creator, YaHuWaH, on that great day when Yahushua returns.
If we say that we love and believe in YaHuWaH's son, Yahushua, we must also do it in action. It is not enough just to confess or say that we believe and love Yahushua, we must do it in our actions and be faithful to Him. Obedience to all of YaHuWaH's commandments / Torah is the natural response of a heart that is filled with love for the Father.
We keep His Commands just as Yahushua did.
Which commands? The Ten commandments of love AND the commands / instructions written in the Torah -(the first five books of scripture). This includes keeping YaHuWaH's feasts as set out in Leviticus 23.
His commands are a set of love instructions given by YaHuWaH and they show us the best way to live and they are for our protection.
We make think we know and keep the commands because we keep some of the ten commandments set out in Exodus 20. We my not murder or steal, but you may be surprised at your perceptions of some of the others.
Number 4: Honour the Sabbath. Keep it set apart. Do no work and rest.
The Sabbath is not on Sunday. It is on Saturday. The Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday by man, namely Constantine. (click here for more information)
Some may say well I keep the 10 commandments yet they eat what they like and do not observe YaHuWaH's dietary laws or His feast days and do not keep the other directions set out in Torah.
So we can see that we can know those who love and believe in Yahushua by their actions, by the guarding / keeping of His Commands.
1 John 2 v 3-6
‘And by this we know that we know Him, if we guard (keep) His Commandments. The one who says, ‘I know (believe in) Him,’ and does not guard (keep) His Commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in Him. But whoever guards His word, truly the LOVE of Eloah (God) has been perfected in him. The one who stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked.'
As simple as it may seem, the scriptures teach us that our love for YaHuWaH is demonstrated by keeping His Commandments.
Out of the ten commandments of love, the first four tell us how to show our love to YaHuWaH, and the last six tell us how to show love to others. The directions written in Torah show us how to live and behave towards YaHuWaH, towards others and it also set out right rulings and justice. Not all directives in Torah apply to everyone as some are for women, some for men and some for the Levitical priesthood and Temple service.
Keeping Torah and walking in YaHuWaH's Ways is the fruit which identifies and proves real love.
What do your actions say? Do they say I love you ???
