We will introduce and use more Hebrew words as we study the commandments:
1. I am YaHuWaH your Elohim (Mighty One / God), who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim (Egypt), out of the house of slavery. You have no other mighty ones against My face.

Let's break the first commandment down:
Here YaHuWaH introduces Himself. He says "I AM." Just as He said to Moshe (Moses) in Exodus Chapter 3 when He revealed His name to him - Verse 14 "I AM that I AM" Verse 15 "YaHuWaH Elohim of your fathers."

At the very outset of this covenant the One who is making this agreement with His people tells us His name and that He is the ONE true and only Mighty One.

Isaiah Chapter 45 Verses 5 - 7 confirms this: "I am YaHuWaH and there is none else - there are no mighty ones besides Me . I gird you though you have not known Me, so that they know from the rising of the sun and from the west that there is none but Me. I am YaHuWaH and there is none else. Forming light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil, I, YaHuWaH, do all these things.​.."

YaHuWaH claims His people by saying I AM yours - you are mine. And if you still are unsure of who He is, He goes on to tell us that He is the One who brought the Israelites out of Egypt and freed them from slavery / bondage.
YaHuWaH also does this for us today. He frees us from the bondage of sin, curses and death through His son Yahushua.

This means that we should have no names of any false gods on our lips nor practice any Pagan rituals of any false gods.

So, the first stipulation in this 'Covenant Agreement' is to acknowledge that YaHuWaH is the Almighty and that there is no other. The second is not to have anything to do with any Pagan / false deities or their practices.
