Yom Teruah or The Feast of Trumpets

The remainder of the Appointed Times are directed to the seventh month - the Sabbath month. The next appointed time is the Feast of Trumpets or also known as Yom Teruah. This occurs around the autumnal equinox. It is not really a feast as such and occurs at the ingathering of the fruit harvest.

Leviticus Chapter 23 Verses 24 - 25

Speak to the children of Yisrael, saying, In the seventh moon (month), on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation. You shall not do any ordinary work, and you shall present a food offering to YaHuWaH.

Yom Teruah is the only annual appointed time on YaHuWaH's calendar that actually occurs on the first day of the new moon / month. The Hebrew word 'Teruah' is commonly translated as 'Trumpet' or 'Shofar' but actually means 'Blowing' or 'Blasting'. It is a memorial blast which brings us to repentance. Yom Teruah begins what is traditionally referred to as the '10 days of awe' which lead up to the next appointed time of Yom Kippur, Day of Atonement. It is a set-apart day and no work is to be done.

Messiah Yahushua tells us of an important trumpet call in Matthew Chapter 24 Verses 30 - 31

"And then the sign of the Son of Man shall appear in the heavens, and then all the nations of the earth shall mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the heavens with much power and much esteem. And He shall send His Messengers with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His chosen ones from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other."

The loud trumpet call in Matthew Chapter 24 corresponds to the "sound of the trumpet" in Zachariah Chapter 9 and Isaiah 27. Could there be any doubt that this is what Yahushua is describing when He says the Son of Man will appear in the heaven? The time when the Son of Man will send His Messengers to gather His elect. He is warning us and preparing us for the day of His return.

Another important event that happened on Yom Teruah was the birth of the Messiah. Messiah was not born on 25th December as many people are led to believe. He was born on
11th September 3 BCE

The renewed moon would have been visible and brightest star in the constellation 'Bethulah' (Virgo) would have been visible and the heavens announced the birth of the Messiah as described in Revelation Chapter 12: "And there appeared a great sign in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: and she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered."

It was at this time when the shofars were sounding throughout the land, that our Messiah was born. He was born in Bethlehem, the City of David to fulfil the prophecy of Micah Chapter 5 Verse 2. How fitting that our Messiah was born on YaHuWaH's appointed time of blasting a memorial blast...
