If You Love Me...

For most of us it may be quite easy to say those three little words "I love you" to the people who are nearest and dearest to us. They slip off the tongue quite easily and in our minds and emotions we believe that we truly love the person we have said it to. It is however, a known fact that just saying these words does not really prove that we love that person. We prove that we love that person in our actions rather than in our words (actions speak louder than words.)

The Hebrew word for 'love' is 'ahav' and goes much deeper than a simple emotion or words. The word 'ahav' means 'to provide and protect what is given as a privileged gift.' This means that we are to love not in an emotional sense but in our actions.

The natural response of the heart that feels loved is to demonstrate love in return by actions. The person that loves YaHuWaH longs to show love in return and it becomes the most natural thing in the world to obey our heavenly Father.

In John Chapter 14 Verse 15

Yahushua says:

"If you love me, you will guard my Commands."

He also goes on to say in verse 21:

"He who possesses my Commands and guards (does) them, it is he who loves me. And He who loves me shall be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and manifest myself to Him."

In John Chapter 15 Verse 9 Yahushua
goes on to say:

"As the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you. Stay in My love. If you guard (do) My Commands you shall stay in My love, even as I have guarded My Father's Commands and stay in His love."

1 John Chapter 3 Verses 23 - 24 says this:

"And this is His Command; that we should believe in the name of His Son Yahushua the Messiah and love one another as He commanded us, and the one guarding His Commands stays in Him, and He in him."

YaHuWaH shows us that He loves us through His provision, protection and His faithfulness to us. He sent the gift of His Son so that anyone who believes in Him can be delivered and have life. The gift of salvation is not something that happens as soon as we say we believe, or say a prayer, or put our hands up in a church service. Salvation / deliverance comes when we stand before our Creator YaHuWaH on that great day when Yahushua returns.

If we say that we love and believe in YaHuWaH's son Yahushua, we must also do it in action. It is not enough just to confess or say that we believe and love Yahushua, we must do it in our actions and be faithful to Him. Obedience to all of YaHuWaH's commandments in His Torah that pertain to our lives is the natural response of a heart that is filled with love for the Father. We keep His Commands just as Yahushua did. Which commands? The Ten commandments of love and the commandments written in the rest of the Torah that apply to our own lives and are written in the first five books of scripture. This includes keeping YaHuWaH's feasts or holidays as set out in Leviticus 23.

The commandments are a set of instructions based on love, justice and clean living given to us by YaHuWaH at Mount Sinai. They show us the best way to live in this world and are given to us for our protection for they preserve life, bring blessings upon us and secure our souls with light while protecting us from the darkness that surrounds us.

We may think we know and keep the commands because we keep some of the ten commandments set out in Exodus 20. We might not murder or steal but you may be surprised at your perceptions of some of the others.

Number 4: Honour the Sabbath. Keep it set-apart. You do no work, for it is a day of rest.

The Sabbath is not on Sunday. It is on Saturday. The Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday by a man, namely Constantine. (click here for more information)

Some may say "well I keep the 10 commandments" yet they actually don't keep the 7th day Sabbath which is a sign between YaHuWaH and us. Many believers eat what they like and do not observe YaHuWaH's dietary laws or His feast days and do not keep the other very important commands set out in the Torah. As James states in:

James Chapter 2 Verse 10

"For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it."

So, we can see that we can know those who love and believe in Yahushua by their actions - by the guarding / keeping of His commands and He commands His followers to obey His Father's commandments as seen in Matthew 5:17-20, Matthew 19:17, Luke 16:17 and much of Revelation 2.

1 John Chapter 2 Verses 3 - 6

"And by this we know that we know Him, if we guard (do) His Commandments. The one who says, ‘I know (believe in) Him,’ and does not guard His Commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in Him. But whoever guards His word, truly the LOVE of the Almighty has been perfected in him. The one who stays in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked."

As simple as it may seem, the scriptures teach us that our love for YaHuWaH is demonstrated by keeping His CommandmentsOut of the ten commandments of love, the first four tell us how to show our love to YaHuWaH, and the last six tell us how to show love to the people around us. The directions written in the Torah show us how to live and behave towards YaHuWaH, towards others and also set-out right rulings and justice in moral and legal matters.

Not all directives in the Torah apply to everyone as some are just for women, some for men, some for farmers and some for the Levitical priesthood and temple service. It is therefore unnecessary to feel obliged to obey all of the commandments, only the ones that pertain to our own lives and positions in society.

Keeping the commandments in the Torah and walking in YaHuWaH's Ways is the fruit which identifies and proves real love.

What do your actions say? Do they say..."I love you?"
